Energy saving and efficient use of Energy

Energy efficiency in Public Sector

In Cyprus, the public sector consumes about 2-3% of the total energy consumption. The respective electricity consumption of the public sector is about 8% of the total electricity consumption. Even though the public sector is not the largest energy consumer, it has to exploit to the maximum its existing energy efficiency potential.

The public sector constitutes an important driver to stimulate market transformation towards more efficient products, buildings and services, as well as to trigger behavioral changes in energy consumption by citizens and enterprises. Furthermore, decreasing energy consumption through energy efficiency improvement measures can free up public resources for other purposes. Public bodies at national, regional and local level should fulfill an exemplary role as regards energy efficiency
