“Aphrodite” Natural Gas Field

The licensee of Block 12 declared in June 2015 the “Aphrodite” natural gas discovery as commercial field, and subsequently the relevant Development and Production Plan was submitted. Current natural gas resource estimate on the reservoir is 4,5 trillion cubic feet (best estimate).

With regard to the monetisation of the natural gas, the licensee of Block 12, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry (MECI), concluded that the most economic viable option, taking into account the existing financial and commercial conditions, is the connection of the “Aphrodite” field with regional gas pipelines to Cyprus and Egypt.

The discussion between the MECI and the licensee of Block 12 on the agreement concerning the Development and Production Plan of the “Aphrodite” field is ongoing, while discussions with potential buyers in Cyprus and Egypt for long term gas sales contracts are underway. Furthermore, a technical study was conducted in 2015 by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and Cyprus Hydrocarbons Company (CHC) for the connection of the “Aphrodite” field with Egypt.
