TRADE IN CERTAIN GOODS WHICH COULD BE USED FOR CAPITAL PUNISHMENT, TORTURE OR OTHER CRUEL, INHUMAN OR DEGRADING TREATMENT OR PUNISHMENT

The European Union issued Regulation 1236/2005 for the control of trade in certain goods which could be used for capital punishment, torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

According to the Regulation an import or export prohibition from or to third countries is imposed for certain items which are specially designed for the imposition of the above penalties, while for the export of certain other items that may be used for the imposition of the same penalties an export licence is needed. Moreover the transit, the acceptance or provision of technical assistance, the provision of brokering services, the training, the participation in trade fairs and the advertising are controlled.

In order to implement Regulation 1236/2005, Law no. 145(I)/2007 was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic no. 4143 of 2.11.2007.
